India Post Recruitment 2026 – Overview
The Department of Posts has issued the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026 notification for 23,757 tentative vacancies across postal circles in India. The recruitment covers Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak posts, with Assam Circle alone offering 414 vacancies under Assamese, Bengali, and Bodo language groups.
One-time registration (OTR) is open from 31 August to 19 September 2026. Registered candidates can then submit their application and pay the fee from 2 September to 21 September 2026, up to 5 PM. There is no written examination – shortlisting is based entirely on a system-generated merit list from Class 10 marks.

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
•Must have passed the Secondary School Examination (Class 10) from a recognised Board with passing marks in Mathematics and English. An equivalent qualification from another board is not accepted.
•Must have studied the prescribed local language at least up to Class 10 from a recognised Board.

Job Profile & Residence Requirements
Branch Postmaster (BPM)
Manages day-to-day postal and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) operations of a Branch Post Office. Must arrange suitable accommodation for the Branch Post Office at own cost and reside in the post village.
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
Assists the BPM, handles postal and IPPB work, and may perform combined BPM duties when required. Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Branch Post Office.
Dak Sevak
Handles mail, delivery, postal transactions, and assistance in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, or Delivery Centres. Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the attached office.
Selection Process of India Post Recruitment
Applicants are shortlisted through a system-generated merit list based on Class 10 marks. Marks or converted grades and points are aggregated as a percentage accurate to 4 decimal places. No written examination is conducted.
Shortlisted candidates must report to the designated Divisional or Unit Head within 15 days from shortlisting for physical verification of documents. After successful verification, candidates must complete joining formalities within 30 days, including 3 days of prescribed basic training and, for BPM candidates, arranging accommodation.
