The Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam has released the official notification for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) 2026 under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. A total of 2,411 scholarships are reserved for Class VIII students studying in Government or Govt.-aided schools across Assam. Selected candidates will receive financial assistance of ₹12,000 per annum (₹1,000/month) from Class IX through XII. Eligible students with a minimum of 55% marks in Class VII and a family income not exceeding ₹3,50,000 per annum can apply online at madhyamik.assam.gov.in between 12th August 2026 and 8th November 2026.

The Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam has released the official notification for the Centrally Sponsored National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Scheme for the academic session 2026–2027. NMMS Scholarships are awarded to gifted and meritorious students studying as regular students in Class IX, X, XI, and XII in Government and Provincialized schools, whose parental income does not exceed ₹3,50,000/- per annum.
Interested and eligible Class VIII students can apply online through the official portal madhyamik.assam.gov.in. Assam has been allocated 2,411 scholarships for this academic session. The scholarship examination will be held on 28 November 2026.

NMMS Exam Pattern & Selection Process
A written Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) examination is held for selection. The question paper is available in Assamese, English, Hindi, Bengali, and Bodo medium; the OMR sheet is in English only. There are two papers: Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

Interested and eligible candidates must apply online through the official NMMS Assam Scholarship Portal. Before applying, candidates must first register on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Click the “Online Application Form” link in the Important Links section below to visit the NMMS Assam Scholarship Portal.
Complete registration by clicking “Register Now” using the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) OTR (One Time Registration).
Fill in all personal and educational details and upload the necessary scanned documents (photo, signature, caste certificate, disability certificate as applicable).
Pay the application fee as per your category (₹180/₹175/₹200 as applicable).
Submit the completed application form before the last date.

The last date to submit the online application for NMMS Scholarship 2026 in Assam is 8 November 2026. Applications opened on 12 August 2026.
NMMS awardees receive ₹12,000/- per annum, disbursed at the rate of ₹1,000/- per month, for a maximum period of 4 years (Class IX to XII), subject to maintaining minimum required marks.
Students of Class VIII studying in Government, Local Body, or Government-Aided schools with minimum 55% marks in Class VII (50% for SC/ST) and whose parental income does not exceed ₹3,50,000/- per annum are eligible.
Private school students may appear in the exam but are not eligible to receive the scholarship. Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, and residential schools are also not eligible.
The NMMS exam consists of two papers: Mental Ability Test (MAT) – 90 questions/90 marks, and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) – 90 questions/90 marks. Students must score at least 40% aggregate (32% for SC/ST) to qualify.
