Gauhati University PG Admission 2026 is officially open for registration on the Samarth admission portal from 6 June 2026 to 15 June 2026. Admission to all traditional and interdisciplinary Master’s programmes at the university campus and its affiliated colleges is determined by the Gauhati University Post Graduate Entrance Test (GU PGET 2026). The offline, OMR-based entrance exam is scheduled to take place on 3, 4, and 5 July 2026 across 18 regional exam centres. Eligible graduates can apply for a maximum of three programmes with an application fee of ₹800 per course.

Gauhati University PG Admission 2026 – Overview

Gauhati University has released the official admission notice for all Post Graduate (Master’s) programmes for the 2026–27 academic session. Admission to all Master’s programmes at the University campus and affiliated colleges is through the Gauhati University Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGET-2026). Applications are accepted online via the Samarth Admission Portal from 6 to 15 June 2026.

The PGET-2026 is an offline OMR-based exam scheduled across 3 days (3, 4 & 5 July 2026) at 18 centres across Assam and neighbouring states. Candidates can apply for up to 3 programmes — 1 from the Traditional list and up to 2 from the Interdisciplinary list.

💡 Final Year Students: Candidates who appeared in 6th Semester examinations of 2026 and are awaiting results can apply and take provisional admission if selected. Final grade sheet must be submitted within 7 days of result declaration, or the seat will be withdrawn.

Note: A candidate can choose only 1 Traditional programme in PGET-2026. Traditional seats follow a 50:50 ratio (50% for GU candidates, 50% open to all universities).

Note: A candidate can choose up to 2 Interdisciplinary programmes. Seats are open to all candidates regardless of university. No candidate may pick more than one subject from the same session on the same day.

Seat Reservation Policy

✓Traditional Programmes: 50% seats for GU candidates & 50% open to all universities. M.Sc. Geology follows a 30:70 ratio.

✓Interdisciplinary Programmes: All seats open to candidates from any university.

✓Statutory Reservation (Govt. of Assam): SC 7% | ST-Plains 10% | ST-Hills 5% | OBC/MOBC 27% (non-creamy layer) | EWS 10%

✓3% seats in each discipline reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). Supernumerary seats also exist for NE candidates outside Assam, GU employees’ wards, NCC/NSS, ex-defence, sports/cultural quotas.

⚠ Reserved Category Applicants: Submit the filled Other Category Form with a printed application and self-attested testimonials to Room No. 14, Office of the Secretary, University Classes, Gauhati University on or before 18 June 2026 (in person or by post).

Register with a working email ID and mobile number, then log in to the portal.

Fill in your personal, contact, and academic details accurately.

Choose your subjects — up to 1 Traditional and up to 2 Interdisciplinary. Check the exam schedule carefully before selecting; no candidate can pick more than one subject from the same session on the same day.

Upload your scanned passport-size photograph and signature in the required dimensions. Use the image resizer tool on the portal if needed.

Pay the application fee online via Debit Card, Credit Card, or Internet Banking (₹800 for 1 / ₹1,600 for 2 / ₹2,400 for 3 programmes).

Submit the form and download a copy of the filled application and the payment receipt for your records.

ℹ Study Gap Rule: Candidates with a study gap of more than 5 years from the qualifying degree are not eligible for admission.
