The GATE 2027 official notification has been released by the organizing institute, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 will be a fully Computer Based Test (CBT) covering 30 subject papers distributed across February 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st, 2027. Candidates currently in their 3rd year or higher of an undergraduate degree, or who have already completed an approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities, are eligible to apply. The online application portal opens on August 14th, 2026, and registrations without a late fee will close on September 21st, 2026.

GATE 2027 – Overview

IIT Madras has released the official notification for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. GATE 2027 will be conducted for 30 subjects and distributed over 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027 as a purely Computer Based Test (CBT) at centres spread across 300+ cities in India.

GATE is a national examination conducted jointly by IISc and all 23 IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. Qualifying in GATE is mandatory for admission and/or financial assistance to Master’s and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture, and Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Arts and Science, in MoE-supported institutions.

Several PSUs including BHEL, GAIL, HAL, IOCL, NTPC, NPCIL, ONGC and PGCIL use GATE scores to shortlist candidates for employment. Direct recruitment to Group A posts in the Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, is also carried out based on GATE score.

🏆 No Age Limit: There is no upper or lower age limit to appear for the GATE 2027 examination.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2027

Candidates currently in the 3rd year or higher of any undergraduate degree program, OR who have completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities, are eligible to appear for GATE 2027.
ℹ There is no age limit for GATE 2027. Candidates should verify detailed subject-wise educational qualification requirements in the official information brochure.
