The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the notification for the UGC NET June 2026 session. This national-level entrance exam is the gateway for Indian nationals to qualify for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professorship, and, under the new guidelines, direct Admission to Ph.D. programs in Indian Universities and Colleges.
The online application process began on April 29, 2026. Candidates can apply for 85 different subjects through the official NTA portal.

New Eligibility Categories for 2026
Starting this session, the UGC NET qualification is divided into three distinct categories:
- Category 1: Award of JRF and Appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Category 2: Appointment as Assistant Professor and Admission to Ph.D.
- Category 3: Admission to Ph.D. only.
Eligibility Criteria & Age Limit
1. Educational Qualification
- Master’s Degree Holders: General/EWS candidates need at least 55% marks in their Master’s degree (Humanities, Social Science, Computer Science, etc.). OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender candidates require 50% marks.
- 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree Holders: Candidates with a 4-year/8-semester undergraduate degree can now apply directly for JRF and Ph.D. Admission if they have at least 75% marks in aggregate (70% for reserved categories).
- Note: These candidates are not eligible for Assistant Professor roles based on the UG degree alone.
- Final Year Students: Candidates in the final year of their Master’s or 4-year Bachelor’s program are eligible to apply provisionally.
2. Age Limit (as of 01.06.2026)
- JRF: Maximum 30 years. (Relaxation of 5 years for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Women, and Third Gender).
- Assistant Professor & Ph.D. Admission: There is no upper age limit.

- Paper I (50 Questions – 100 Marks): Teaching/Research Aptitude, Reasoning, and General Awareness.
- Paper II (100 Questions – 200 Marks): Subject-specific questions based on the candidate’s chosen post-graduation subject.
- Marking Scheme: +2 for correct answers. No negative marking.
