Selection Process

Selection is a two-stage online process with no interview. You must first clear the Preliminary Examination (a screening stage only), then appear for the Main Examination. Only the Main Exam marks (200, converted to 100) are used for the merit list and provisional allotment.

✅ No Interview! Selection is purely on CBT performance — Prelims (screening) → Main Exam (merit) → Local Language Test (qualifying) → Provisional Allotment.
⚠ Negative Marking: Both Prelims and Main carry a penalty of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.

Preliminary Examination – Exam Pattern

An objective online test of 100 marks completed in 1 hour, with separate timing for each section. Candidates must clear the sectional cut-off fixed by IBPS to be shortlisted for the Main Exam:

Name of Test Questions Marks Duration
English Language 30 30 20 Min
Numerical Ability 35 35 20 Min
Reasoning Ability 35 35 20 Min
Total 100 100 60 Min

Main Examination – Exam Pattern

The Main Exam carries 200 marks for 160 questions, to be attempted in 125 minutes with sectional timing. A minimum sectional cut-off plus overall score is required for the merit list:

Name of Test Questions Marks Duration
General / Financial Awareness 40 50 20 Min
General English 40 40 35 Min
Reasoning Ability 40 60 35 Min
Quantitative Aptitude 40 50 35 Min
Total 160 200 125 Min
ℹ️ Pattern Change: This is a change from the previous edition, which had 155 questions in 120 minutes. The “Reasoning & Computer Aptitude” section is now notified simply as Reasoning Ability.

Local Language Proficiency Test

Conducted after the Main Exam and provisional allotment, but before joining the bank. It is marks-based and qualifying in nature — a candidate who fails to qualify is not offered appointment.

🏭 Exemption: If you can produce a Class 10 or higher marksheet showing you studied the opted language, you are exempt. Candidates from Assam who studied Assamese, Bengali or Bodo in school should keep that marksheet ready.
