The Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Assam has published the official notification for the recruitment of 200 Veterinary Field Assistant (VFA) and allied cadre posts. Candidates must appear in a written examination covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and General Awareness, with questions set at Higher Secondary Science (HSSLC) standard.

What Is the Standard of the VFA Examination?
The prescribed standard is HSSLC (Science), or Class 12. Class 9 and 10 science can help revise foundations, but preparation must also cover Class 11 and 12 concepts – studying only lower-school science would leave substantial parts of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology uncovered.
ℹ Note: The 1-year training in Elementary Knowledge of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science is a separate post-selection requirement – it is not part of the written-test syllabus, which covers only the four subjects above.

•Cells, Tissues & Biomolecules: Prokaryotic/eukaryotic cells, organelles, diffusion, osmosis, active transport, plant/animal tissues, carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, enzymes, mitosis vs. meiosis.
•Plant Structure & Life Processes: Roots, stems, leaves, xylem/phloem transport, transpiration, nitrogen fixation, photosynthesis, respiration, germination, tropic movements, growth regulators.
•Ecology & Environment: Populations, communities, ecosystems, food chains/webs, energy flow, ecological pyramids, biodiversity, conservation, pollution, greenhouse warming, ozone depletion.
•Nutrition, Breathing & Circulation: Digestion, absorption, digestive enzymes, breathing, gas exchange, blood components, blood groups, heart, blood vessels, lymph; basic human vs. ruminant digestion comparison.

•Heredity & Molecular Biology: Genes, alleles, chromosomes, genotype/phenotype, Mendel’s laws, monohybrid crosses, sex determination, DNA vs. RNA, replication, transcription, translation.
•Evolution & Adaptation: Inherited variation, mutation, natural selection, elementary speciation, fossils, comparative structures, homologous/analogous organs, broad human evolution outline.
•Health, Disease & Immunity: Communicable/non-communicable diseases, pathogens, vectors, immunity, antibodies, vaccination, nutritional deficiencies, hygiene, public health.

How to Prepare for the Assam VFA Exam?

Use the topic outline to check your Class 11 & 12 science textbooks and identify forgotten areas. Return to Class 9–10 material only where a missing foundation blocks a higher-secondary topic.

Keep subject-suited revision notes: organ/function comparisons for Biology, formulas/reactions for Chemistry, formulas with units for Physics, and dated facts for General Awareness.
